The Renntransporter
Few vehicles capture the romance of Porsche's golden era of racing quite like the Mercedes-Benz O317 Renntransporter. Instantly recognisable from the paddocks of Le Mans and the Targa Florio, these rolling workshops became as iconic as the cars they carried, transporting everything from 917s to 935s in liveries spanning Porsche, Martini, Gulf, Essex and Rothmans.
This beautifully restored 1975 Mercedes-Benz O317 pays tribute to those legendary factory transporters. Built on a genuine O317 chassis, it has been converted into a bespoke four-car race transporter, complete with a modern tail lift, while retaining all the character of the original works trucks. Finished in Martini Racing silver with hand-painted graphics and UK road registration, it looks every bit the part.
It's the sort of machine that feels right at home in the Luftgekühlt paddock – less support vehicle, more centrepiece. Equal parts race truck, design icon and rolling piece of Porsche history, it's guaranteed to attract as much attention as whatever sits on its deck.
The transporter is currently offered for sale by Maxted-Page, presenting a rare opportunity to own one of the coolest race haulers ever built.
