The Cowboy Cadillac

For this weekend’s United States Grand Prix, the Cadillac Formula 1 Team has created a one-off livery inspired by the craft, culture and character of Texas.

Developed in just a few weeks by designers in Michigan and the UK, the design takes its cues from vintage cowboy shirts, blue jean chain stitching and the intricate scrollwork of fine saddlery. Rather than simply decorating the car, the team wanted it to feel as though the intricate embroidery had been stitched directly onto its bodywork.

There are plenty of details hidden within the pattern too. The Austin skyline and Circuit of the Americas appear alongside 50 stars, Texas cacti and an upside-down horseshoe for good luck. The drivers’ race suits have been given the same western treatment. Part cowboy shirt, part race car, and unmistakably Texas.
