Mission S
The Mission S is a vision of Porsche’s evolving design language and, more significantly, a glimpse at a new mid-engined super sports car positioned above the 911. Rather than a one-off hypercar, Porsche says it is intended as the foundation for a permanent addition to the range.
Unveiled in New York, on the same Queens pier where the mid-engined 550 Spyder was photographed in 1953, the Mission S is packed with references to Porsche’s greatest sports cars. Its torpedo-style front wings, round headlights, low roofline and flat nose echo everything from the 911 and 959 to the GT1 and 550 Spyder, but without becoming a pastiche.
The proportions are pure mid-engined sports car, with a dramatic width-to-height ratio, floating body volumes and an integrated active rear wing. Even the wheels borrow from Porsche history, reinterpreting the iconic ‘dial’ design of the 928 with a focus on lightweight construction.
Inside, Porsche has gone deliberately analogue. Five round instruments sit behind the steering wheel, while physical switches and controls sit alongside carefully integrated digital displays. There is no permanent central screen or passenger display. Instead, a retractable smartphone mount handles navigation and information when required.
The result is a Porsche that looks forward by looking back. Authentic, focused and unmistakably Stuttgart.
