McLaren goes Back to the Future

McLaren has revealed an evolved visual identity that brings its racing and automotive worlds closer together, connecting more than 60 years of innovation with a new vision for the future. At the heart of the evolution is a new wordmark inspired by the sign above the McLaren family Service Station in Remuera, Auckland, where Bruce McLaren built the car that delivered his first racing victory. It is a nice nod to the marque’s beginnings, while giving the identity a sharper, more contemporary character.

The familiar Speedmark remains at the centre of the brand, alongside the unmistakable Papaya orange and the Speedy Kiwi, a reminder of Bruce’s New Zealand roots. The palette has also been expanded with colours drawn from significant moments in McLaren’s history.

The new identity arrives during a particularly significant period for the marque. McLaren Racing is celebrating its 1,000th Formula 1 Grand Prix and preparing to return to the World Endurance Championship with its new Hypercar, while McLaren Automotive is investing £500 million in its UK manufacturing and engineering operations as it prepares to expand beyond its traditional two-seat sports cars.

Rather than a clean break with the past, the new identity is an attempt to stitch McLaren’s history and future together. Bruce’s restless pursuit of what comes next remains very much part of the story.
