The Blue Chip F40

There are Ferraris, and then there’s the F40. Built to celebrate Ferrari’s 40th anniversary and famously the last model signed off by Enzo Ferrari himself, the F40 wasn’t just a car, it was a statement. Stripped of luxury, packed with 471 bhp from a twin-turbo V8, and wrapped in raw carbon and Kevlar, it was pure performance in its most elemental form.

But the example featured here, now dubbed the ‘Blue Chip F40,’ takes things even further. Originally delivered to Bologna in 1992 and later imported to the UK, this late-production Italian-market example has undergone a tasteful, high-performance transformation by Furlonger Specialist Cars. The upgrades include a rare F40 LM racing gearbox, larger 355-mm Brembo brakes, Tubi exhaust, upgraded turbos, adjustable KW suspension with lift kit, and mercifully for UK drivers, air con.

Most strikingly, it’s been resprayed in Azzurro Hyperion, a shimmering blue that completely redefines the F40’s famously aggressive lines. Inside, it’s trimmed in blue Alcantara, tying the whole look together beautifully. The Blue Chip F40 isn’t just a showstopper. It’s a bold reinterpretation of a legend, blending originality with individuality in spectacular fashion.

This beautiful 1992 Ferrari F40 is available as part of RM Sotheby’s upcoming Monterey Auction, taking place on the 22nd May 2025. It’s estimated to fetch between $2.5m – $2.8m. Photos © Ashley Lauzurica / RM Sotheby’s.
