Reinventing the E-Type
What happens when one of the world’s most iconic cars is revisited by the designer who helped shape its legacy? Ian Callum, the former Jaguar design chief, has unveiled a striking reimagination of the E-Type – a concept that nods to history while confidently stepping into the present.
Created by his design studio, CALLUM, this concept isn’t just a restomod, it’s a love letter to one of the most celebrated automotive forms ever made. While the silhouette remains unmistakably E-Type, nearly every surface has been refined, re-proportioned, and reconsidered. The result is a car that feels both instantly familiar and entirely new.
The stance is lower, wider, and more assertive. Sculpted wheel arches frame unique aero-disc wheels, their three-spoke centres subtly referencing the original’s knock-off hubs. Chrome details and bumpers are gone, replaced with a pared-back aesthetic that lets the form speak for itself. Flush door handles, revised LED lighting, and a cleaner grille treatment all contribute to a modern, minimalist presence.
Step inside and the design philosophy continues: analogue and digital sit side by side, with tactile toggle switches and a beautifully machined metal gear knob pointing to a five-speed manual. There’s tech, but it doesn’t shout, this is still a driver’s car at heart.
For now, it’s a concept under CALLUM’s ‘Portfolio’ banner. But with the right client and commission, it could become something real, something road-ready. More than a redesign, this is a thoughtful evolution, an exploration of what the E-Type might look like had it been allowed to grow, quietly and beautifully, over time. It’s proof that great design doesn’t age. It adapts.
