Jaime Gili’s Mini Art Car
This 1971 Authi Mini 1000, transformed by artist Jaime Gili, is a striking fusion of British automotive heritage and contemporary art. This rare left-hand drive road-ready model captivates onlookers with its vibrant design inspired by Gili's 'The Lakes' series.
Originally designed by Alec Issigonis, the Mini was intended as a practical, no-frills vehicle. However, since its debut in 1959, it has evolved into a cultural icon, celebrated on race tracks and in films. Gili, known for extending his artistic practice beyond traditional canvases to include architecture and motor cars, meticulously selected this Spanish-built Mini as his canvas. The transformation process began with detailed studies and evolved into a harmonious blend of colours and lines, meticulously applied over several days in a painting cabin. The design, rooted in Gili's exploration of modernist architecture and tropical vegetation, enhances the Mini's iconic form.
Produced by BMC's Spanish subsidiary AUTHI from 1968, this Mini variant provided a solid foundation for Gili's artistic vision. The collaboration with an automotive painter in Spain ensured a high-quality finish, true to Gili's design ethos. The custom-designed floor mats extend the exterior's vibrant theme into the interior, making every drive a unique experience.
