Bugatti’s Blanc Éternel

At first glance, the Bugatti W16 Mistral ‘Blanc Éternel’ is a study in black and white. Look closer, though, and its intricate lines reveal something far more interesting: the invisible digital framework beneath one of the world’s most extraordinary roadsters.

Created through Bugatti Sur Mesure in collaboration with Berlin’s historic porcelain maker KPM, this one-off Mistral brings together cutting-edge digital design, traditional craftsmanship and a shared fascination with materiality. The story reaches back 15 years to the Veyron Grand Sport ‘L’Or Blanc’, Bugatti’s porcelain-inspired collaboration with KPM. Its flowing blue lines were applied by hand, turning the car’s sculptural surfaces into a moving canvas.

For Blanc Éternel, Bugatti has taken that idea somewhere altogether more digital. The fine black lines running across its white bodywork map the surfaces used to construct the Mistral in the digital design process. Normally hidden beneath the finished form, the underlying geometry has become the artwork itself. Each line was carefully taped and painted by hand across the Mistral’s complex three-dimensional bodywork, requiring enormous patience and a craftsman’s understanding of how every surface flows into the next.

KPM porcelain adds another layer of theatre. The material appears throughout the exterior, including the EB emblem, fuel and oil caps and engine-cover inlays. Inside, porcelain features on the speaker cover, kneepads, gear selector, armrest and even the window switches.
