The B-EAST!

A 1979 MGB GT, affectionately known as 'the B-EAST,' is set to represent the UK on a global stage, with hopes of becoming a 1:64 scale die-cast model. This achievement follows its victory at the Hot Wheels Legends Tour UK during the recent RADwood automotive event at Bicester Heritage.

Outshining a record-breaking 274 competitors, Michael Wallhead's MGB GT boasts a 3.0-litre Jaguar V6 engine, capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds and reaching a top speed of 148 mph. Wallhead dedicated eight years to building this unique vehicle, recycling parts wherever possible. This resourceful approach led to the use of a Range Rover propshaft, a salvaged Reliant Scimitar axle, Triumph motorcycle throttle bodies, Nissan Silvia S14 brakes, and even repurposed jeans for the seat upholstery.

Now, the B-EAST advances to the Legends Tour Semi-Final, vying for a spot in the Global Finale. Success here could secure its place in the esteemed Hot Wheels Garage of Legends, cementing its status in automotive history.

The Hot Wheels Legends Tour UK witnessed fierce competition, with 10 finalists selected by Hot Wheels representatives from both sides of the Atlantic. The finalists included marques like Jaguar, Ford, VW, and Skoda, along with the Mazda RX-7 of fan-vote winner Sam Carr, who gained a direct ticket to the UK final. Notably, this year marked the first time the UK finale was open to the public, allowing all 274 participants to attend the show and showcase their remarkable builds at RADwood.

Since its launch in the UK just four years ago, the Hot Wheels Legends Tour has gained immense popularity within the automotive community. In 2023, the event attracted more than double the 100 entries received in 2022. This surge underscores the UK's rich automotive talent, with finalists from the past two years making it to the Global Final. In 2021, the UK's Volvo P1800 Gasser, known as "Ain't No Saint," clinched the overall victory, resulting in thousands of 1:64 scale models of the extraordinary drag racer being enjoyed by enthusiasts worldwide.
