How I Designed...?

Frank Stephenson is an automotive designer who is widely known for his work at BMW, Mini, Ferrari, Maserati, Fiat, Lancia, Alfa Romeo, and most recently McLaren. Motor Trend magazine called him “one of most influential automotive designers of our time”.

Over the last few month Frank has been running a series of short films on his official YouTube channel called “How I Designed…?”. Here he talks through some of the iconic vehicles he has worked on throughout his career – from the Ford Escort Cosworth to the McLaren P1 – while sketching live.

Those original design sketches from the series are now being auctioned with all proceeds going to Harrison’s Fund – a non-profit charity raising funds in the effort to find a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Harrison’s Fund was founded by Alex Smith after his now 13-year-old son, Harrison, was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in 2011 and he became aware that there is no cure for the condition. Duchenne is a rare, fatal degenerative genetic disease affecting children across the world which results in every muscle in the body eventually shutting down.

The auction begins on August 1st lasting two weeks until August 14th, giving fans the opportunity to purchase one-of-one artwork whilst raising money for a brilliant cause. Supporting the charity auction is television personality, and one half of the hit show “Wheeler Dealers”, Ant Anstead, who is also a patron for Harrison’s Fund. Frank & Ant will be speaking about all things cars and the charity auction on a special Instagram Live hosted on Ant’s Instagram Channel on August 9th.
