76th Goodwood Members' Meeting
Founded by Lord March, to recreate the atmosphere and camaraderie of the original BARC Members’ Meetings held at Goodwood Motor Circuit in the 1950s and ‘60s, the Goodwood Members’ Meeting conjures up some of the most evocative sights and sounds from the golden era of motor racing, allowing intimate access to the cars and drivers.
The 2018 Members’ Meeting featured 11 races in total over the two days of the event. Due to the weather the Hailwood Trophy was cancelled as the conditions were just too dangerous for the bikes out on track. That said, more than 30,000 die-hard fans braved the snow and icy temperatures to watch classic 4-wheeled racing at its very best. This year two iconic periods of motorsport history were celebrated with high-speed demonstration runs – Formula 5000 and Group 5 'Special Production Cars'.
The vast majority of competitors adorned their racing cars and crash helmets with #Fever stickers – a tribute to the late Henry Hope-Frost, commentary maestro of Goodwood. Across the paddocks, wherever you looked, there were appreciations of Henry in one form or another. The tributes were rounded off with an incredibly emotional and poignant ‘Minute of Fever’ ahead of Saturday morning’s Formula 5000 demonstration – just as the snow began to fall.
